It was in the process of an upgrade to Interstate 75, there was no stop for fuel at the Miccosukee Indian Reservation, and the exit ramp to State Road 29 was not completed yet (there were no services there, anyhow). So if you headed westbound on I-75, you would see this sign just to the side of the road at the exit for U.S. Route 27:

Next Exit 86 Miles

That’s right…Next Exit 86 Miles. Later on, the distance was changed 26 miles, as it stands today.
